2011 has begun - and so has the local riding! So nice to be riding the Lunch Loops in January, I think this may be a first for me! The season is shaping up to be a good one, I should be attending quite a few events and races. I am most looking forward to Whistler in June, I've been dying to get back there since the Bike magazine trip I took in Oct. 09.

I've got some great sponsors already lined up for the year. Big ups to Giro, Jett MTB, DT-Swiss, BikeJames.com, and of course MRP and White Brothers.

Winter Park

Just got home from a sick weekend at Winter Park. If you've never been there, or at least not lately, it is definitely worth the trip. They've added numerous new trails this year and made some serious improvement to the old ones. Now with the addition of No Quarter and Rainmaker the park has some serious flow and enough features to satisfy even the most seasoned riders.

Raced the first DH of the Trestle series on Saturday with my buddy/non-homosexual boyfriend Ross Schnell. He took the win and I got 4th in the Pro/Open class. I underestimated the competition and it came back to bite me in the butt! Thought I could get 2nd (the day I beat Ross is still aways away) with a smooth run and didn't pedal nearly hard enough - way to much time seated in this one. Lesson learned, I'll be getting familiar with my spin bike this week!

Spent the remainder of the weekend shredding the trails and ran into some friends, SGIII from Secret Cyclery and Nick Simcik of Transition.
Ready to kick-ass and takes names this weekend at the big show! Come join me!

Who wants to see a Mega-style Enduro at Winter Park? Ross and I have the ear of Trestle bike park manager Bob Holme and want to see big, euro style endurance DH find a home in Colorado!

It's hot outside, that can only mean DH season is fast approaching. I missed this last weekend's race in Angel Fire, but I'm glad my buddy Eric Landis represented and won the Cat 1 DH (overall)! His hard work with James Wilson (coincidentally my new coach too) has sure paid off and he's putting up Pro times. This win follows another last weekend at Sol Vista...killing it! He'll have his work cutout for him at Crested Butte...my return. :)

Mountain-cross was canceled after an unfortunate tragedy, the death of young Mojo wheels rider, Craig Lange, during practice on Friday. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and team (more info here). Needless to say, his death puts a lot of things into perspective.....

Anyway, I've been riding a lot and training hard with the aforementioned James Wilson. We work not only on strength, but also skills, body positioning, mobility and durability (we practice tumbling for crashes!). He's helped quite a few riders reach the next level, most notably Aaron Gwin who so far this World Cup season has been pinned - he's gonna win one of those very soon...mark my words. I'm feeling great on the bike and looking forward to my new Knolly Podium to arrive in a few weeks. I'm ready to ride some lifts and roost some drifts!

I'll put some juicy content up in the next few days.....

What a weekend.....another Fat Tire Fest is in the books. Still recovering, so I'l be short. Got some sweet new kit on my bikes from Marzocchi and Crank Brothers, super stoked for chairlift season!

Not stoked on being harassed and interrogated by the BLM, but I don't really want to go into that story...

3rd again in Semi-Pro Super D at Bootleg! I managed a 9.19 on my second run (a 7 second improvement) but 1 and 2 were smoking fast at 9.00 and 9.02. The semi-pro winner actually would have placed 2nd in Pro with his time, and I something like 8th or 9th. So despite being 3 of 3 in my category, I'm pretty proud of my run(s) - still finished ahead of every other amateur and competitive with the Pros.

I crashed hard in the DH and then shortly after flatted so I rode 3/4 of the course on a rear flat, at least I finished! Needless to say, my rim is also FINISHED. 3.33 was the winning time in my category (by GJ local/Grassrooter Pete Knepper) and I crossed the line at 5.10.

Healing vibes go out to promoter Francine Johnson who went down on Saturday and catastrophically broke her elbow, been there! Get well, thanks for a tremendous event.

The sad weather continues, rain, rain and more rain - at least its warmed up. First local ride of the year was last week during the short window of 50-degree days we had. Thursday, I rode the Lunch Loops with Jason (El Camino Fab) and Paul (MRP).

Friday I headed for Moab to ride Amasa Back and catch up with friends. It was perfect, though I rode like crap it was still more fun than a barrell of monkeys. My homey Tyson is the best rider ever....maybe thats an exxageration, but they call him "the Chosen One" for a reason.

Up the first drop on Amasa Back (if you're unfamiliar; there is a 2' trench below the ledge so it's not just an up-and-over, its a gap-to-up-and-over!).

Worst winter weather ever....

By now you may have figured out that the frequency of my blog posts is directly related to the amount of riding I'm doing at any given time...thus nearly no updates this winter. I haven't ridden locally since late November....every time the snow begins to melt we get hit with more (like today). If snow alone wasn't bad enough, it is also F'n cold! I'm not sure it got above freezing more than a single day in January and continuing that trend we won't be getting out of the 30's for at least the next 10 days.

I'm not "hardcore" like this guy, so I've joined a gym and been hitting it hard on the stationary (cringe) bike and doing some pre-season conditioning. Should prove to be a beneficial thing as this is the first time I've taken it seriously and really stuck with it. I think I'm at the point now where I have the on-bike skills sharpened sufficiently well, but could see huge gains with improved strength and fitness. I've gotten a load of inspiration and tips from James Wilson and his tremendously helpful site BikeJames.com.

Headed back to Bootleg for this coming weekend's Mob in the Mojave where I'll be racing, product testing, and covering the event for Bike. Looking forward to sunshine and shuttles! My bikes are dialed, pictured is my Endorphin freshly rebuilt with some new bits and lovely azure Chromag Fubars. My V-Tach is looking proper too with a Boxxer World Cup now adorning the front end.

Moments before disaster.....

Home safely from Boulder City where I checked out the Screamin Santa SuperD and DH races this past weekend. I clipped a pedal going mach speed in the first SuperD race run and thrashed my leg and lost my glasses - I finished last in Pro and opted out of the second course. Pretty much fully scabbed my lower left leg and charlie-horsed my thigh, but I'll survive! The crash didn't sit well with me (and I preferred not to drop another $50) so just watched the DH on Sunday. I did manage to get in a few runs on the Endorphin and V-Tach and both were as fun as ever! Despite the bad luck it wa still a fun weekend in the sun...as we speak it is snowing AGAIN here in Fruita. Bah humbug!

Its snowing like mad here, nearly as much white stuff as I've ever seen in Fruita. I've already been off the bike for two weeks due to Thanksgiving and the subsequent flu-like virus from hell. Finally feeling better and then this happens! I'm dying to ride my bike, may have to drive to Vegas and do the Bootleg Race the weekend before Christmas. Shame its so far, but I'd walk 500 miles to ride my bike at this point.

Rumor has it that the only American stop on the World Cup circuit next year (Windham, NY) may be off. What a shame if it is true. BRING BACK THE WORLD CUP TO COLORADO! Seriously, what better place than somewhere here in Colorado? We have a fairly sizable population in Denver/Front Range that I'm sure would make the trip to the mountains to see legends like Steve Peat and Sam Hill. And we have mountains - much bigger than they do on the east coast.

Hard to believe it was sunny and in the sixties yesterday as I sit in the coffeshop today and watch the rain come down. I'm glad I got out and did some filming yesterday while I had the chance. I rode the Frontside Overlook trail which is a primative doubletrack that climbs a few thousand feet in just a couple miles. Its no fun to climb, but a blast to descend. Its a great way to practice high speed flat turns..because thats all it is! Well, there is some gnar in there and plenty of loose dirt and babyheads.

There used to be a great trail that trapsed across the top of the Bookcliffs beginning at the summit of the overlook trail. Yesterday a brand new carsonite sign adorned with "closed" greeted me after the grueling climb. I wish the BLM would expend as much energy building trails as they do closing them.

Whistler. Holy cow, what an unparalleled destination for biking. I'm sitting in the Vancouver Airport right now heading home after 4 solid days of bike testing. I clocked 3 days in the bike park (private access, no less) which amounted to about 27 runs - or 35,000 vertical feet of decescending. Wednesday I tested swome trail bikes at the Lost Lake trailsystem, a totally different version of XC than I was used to. Happy to be going home but sad to be leaving such a welcoming place and tremendous folks. The crew at Bear Back Riding did a smashing job with the whole thing and the rest of the Bike crew has three more weeks to enjoy thier company.

So I recently picked up Barred for Life and I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed. Wayyy too much slow motion. Some of the shots were great (the euro stuff especially), but they were few and far between. The opening sequence features a WRX ripping around, which was pretty entertaining and got me stoked - but then the movie failed to deliver the goods. This movie has been hyped forever so it's kind a bummer that it failed to come together.

One movie I'm not at all disappointed in is What's Next? by Aaron Laroque. It's free to download or stream, how cool is that? Most of the riding is pretty damn impressive despite featuring some pretty "unknown" talent. Watch it here or find a link to download it, sit back, and enjoy! Nice one!

Crankworx Colorado: Day One

Crankworx Colorado is underway! Todays events included the Downhill qualis and finals, Dual Slalom qualis, and some slopestyle practice. Rain delayed most events and the slopestyle qualifications that were supposed to take place today are postponed until tomorrow.

Phil Ott picked up a cool $2k for winning the pro men's downhill and the oh-so likable Abby Hipply (pictured) took the womens win. I had a crash in pro qualifying and didn't make the cut for finals - very upsetting considering I've done pretty well the past few weeks in the Trestle Bike Park series (3rd and 7th in the last two races - top 25 qualifiers moved onto finals today). The wet conditions didn't help this desert boy's cause, I struggled to keep momentum over the slippery roots. I have another chance to redeem myself at Sunday's Super-D.

Despite my poor performance in the race, I made the most of the day (and my media access) and got quite a bit of filming done. Slopestyle practice started off pretty slow, but once someone had guinea pigged all the lines on course everyone started throwin down. The smoothest riders today were the young Canadians; Alex Pro, Semenuk, and Kurt Sorge. Those kids got the most out of practice and combined threw more tricks than every other competitor combined. Bearclaw is here, as are the Lacondeguy boys so tomorrows qualifying should be slammin!

It appears our recently crowned National Champion Aaron Gwin just came in third at the Mont St. Anne World Cup round! When was the last time an American was on the podium, let alone in the top 3? Badass dude....did I mention he's been riding DH for about two years now?

Surprisingly (or not) Palmer narrowly missed the win by 30+ seconds, finishing in 75th. Ouch.

Crested Butte Wildflower Rush

This past weekend's Wildflower Rush race was a blast! Crested Butte is such a cool town and the venue at the resort was super convenient. For me the race results were mediocre with 17th in Super-D and a big fat DNF in DH. I crashed hard and heavy entering the top of the rock drop bypass. I've got a black and blue left thigh as a result, not the result I was looking for. The course was much better than in years past and it suited me pretty well so the mistake was unfortunate.

Chris Boice won the pro class with a 3.41 - pretty freaking fast. The Maribor round of the world
Cup was this past weekend and once again our latest crop of domestic talent put down some solid results. Aaron Gwin ended up 14th and Luke Strobel 16th. Canadian Steve Smith had a seasons best 7th place finish. Fabien Barel surprised quite a few folks with the win, glad to see him back on track.

Another Fruita Fat Tire Festival is in the books, my fourth since joining the OTE crew. It's already been nearly a week since it's end but I'm still recovering. Once again I had a late night party that finally ended about 5am - just in time for me to get up at 7:30 to open the shop on Sunday (that was a painful day)! The highlight of the festivities was the Goldsprints Roller Races Saturday night at the Endzone. Packed to max occupancy, I'm not sure the Endzone was ready for the ruckus! Check out the video below of yours truly throwing down the hammer! My girlfriend Nancy was paired with Fruita local and known spinner, Cat, for the women's finals in what proved to be the best race of the night - with Nancy ultimately reigning supreme and taking home a White Brothers Carbon 29er fork for her effort (which she subsequently gave back).

I needed a littel vacation after all the hustle and bustle of Fruita so I headed to Moab (thats ironic) on Monday night. Got to ride Kokopelli down on Wednesday and Thursday - one run on my Endorphin and one on my V-Tach. Gotta give the edge to the V-tach on that ride, it's almost like cheating. Despite all the pedally sections I think the big bike is faster overall....

South African Nat. DH Series RD. 4

Just one week away is the first world cup of the year in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Coincidentally the venue was the fourth stop on the South African National series which took place this weekend. Many elite international downhillers took the opportunity to check out the course and see if thier off season training and preparation was worth a damn. American Duncan Riffle, who has been racing World Cups for a few seasons now without stellar results, managed to break the top ten. Hopefully this is the first of many strong finishes for the Californian and his new Chumba backed team. GT rider Kevin Aiello rocked his way to the top of the podium in the Junior catagory. Both results are a great indication of the future direction of american downhill (now if we could just get a decent domestic series).

Back on the top of the box after a long hiatus was Chris Kovarik of the Chain Reaction Cycles/Intense team. A brand not in recent memory associated with dowhill racing, Trek, saw 3 of its riders podium - Neethling (2nd), Leov (4th), and Moseley (1st womens). Slovenian rider Filip Polc managed 6th abord the new Evil Revolt.

The weather has changed for the better and it's time to return to the lifestyle I love, riding bikes, getting dirty, and occasionally getting hurt! My shoulder injury ended up be just a slight separation (self diagnosis). I'm already riding again after just a week and a half off; sore but steady.

Last weekend I attended a great tradeshow/expo in Minneapolis put on by QBP (the biggest bicycle supply company in the country). Minneapolis is a great city with a tremendous cycling community, but gosh-darn its COLD. I visited the famous One-on-one Bike Studio - right down the street from Deja-Vu gentleman's club and right next to Sexworld. Needless to say, its a great neighborhood! The scene was great, a cacophony of shared interests (mostly involving music, drink, and bikes).

Yesterday, I cleared the cobwebs and dust off my gear and headed to Kokopelli. Horsetheif was as good as it gets. I filmed a good chunk of it for a video project I'm doing. Cleaned the drop-in for the first time of the year - 1 for 1...I think I should keep a log of attempts (I'm probably at about 50% lifetime - it's an ever-changing doozy!)

Today I awoke in Moab -the product of some sort of alien abduction I'm sure. Making the best of a strange situation, I got with my gal Nancy and my manfriend Tyson (the chosen one). We slayed Porcupine Rim and I again logged over an hour of footage. I've known Tyson to be one of the best riders around for awhile and I think I at least captured a glimpse of that on video.

Mob n' the Mojave 2009

Just returned from the Mob n' the Mojave race this past weekend in Bootleg Canyon. I placed 3rd in Saturdays Super-D race and somewhere mid-pack in the DH. In my DH race run I crashed within the first 100 yds. and did quite a number on my shoulder, I jumped back on and managed to finish just ~20 secs back from 1st. Would have been an exceptional run without the pile-up, but I'm pleased with my performance anyhow. Hopefully my shoulder isn't too badly banged up, I'll be seeing the doctor this evening.

I'm at LAX right now. LAX is the loudest airport ever. The loudspeaker system is entirely too loud. When it finally quiets down, the steady drone of people talking on cell phones fills the air. I'm huddled down against the wall poaching the scarce outlets with a couple other geeks - they are probably doing powerpoint presentations about TPS reports.

I left Tokyo at 4:50pm on Tuesday, it's now 10:57am on Tuesday and I've already been on a plane for 9 hours today....or was I on the plane tomorrow? Tuesday will be ~40 hours long for me by the time the clock strikes 12:00 am in Fruita tonight. That is as long as most peoples work week - all crunched into one day. It'd be kinda cool if you could do this every week and then have the remaining 6 days off.

Before I flew out Nancy and I got to throw beans at a demon - I'm tired and a little loopy but that did happen, I've got the pictures to prove it. It's the first day of spring today in Japan (Setsuban) apparently and they like to throw beans at guys dressed up like demons to keep them away and have good luck. It's called Kutan day, google it. It seems like you can find someone dressed up in a big ornate, cartoonish costume everyday in Japan - it's always some kind of holiday or celebration.

Anyway, I'll post more when I get back to homebase. Til' then enjoy this picture of a rotor burn...

Step one: Sedona

We've begun the journey known as the Over the Edge staff trip. It never disappoints and this year in particular has thus-far been, well, for lack of a better term; SICK!

We started the journey south and lit up the Chili trails in Moab to get us primed for the daily epics expected in Arizona. They were riding grippy and fast - and broke up the drive to Flagstaff a little easier.

After a night of excellent Thai and spirits in Flag, we drove straight to the trail head up Schnebly hill road in Sedona to take on Hangover and a few other bits. That trail speaks for itself and I honestly can't even describe it. A spectacular day was unceremoniously finished when I sheered off my dérailleur on a gruesomely steep climb. I coasted back to town with a tow from my homeboy Max.

With my Endorphin (AM bike) hurt, I pulled out the V-Tach (DH bike) to conquer some very XC trails with Joe Murrey (yeah that guy) on Sunday. It was a beautiful, classic Sedona burn-and-turn ride on some new trails (suffice to say they were too good to be "recognized"). After logging ~20 miles on the 8" wonder bike, I bailed and headed back to town to down some serious calories! With a belly fool of whatever I could find at the condo, we wound down the evening with some delicious home cooked Italian courtesy of Dave. 8-10 bottles on wine later.....we went to bed.

Hazy and befuddled, I awoke early the next morning to repair my wounded steed with a primo X.0 rear dérailleur loaned to my by Kevin. Upgrade. With my bike back together and jazzed I jumped in with Ross (Schnell), Max, Ticia, and Dave and we set course to the best trail in Sedona - whats the name? Damn if I know. I wish I remembered because it was truly exceptional, as it has been for a few years. Exposure, rollers, vortexes, what else is there in life to ride for? Its a treat to ride with the best riders I know on such an amazing route.

We made tracks to Phoenix today and stopped in Black Canyon City for a quick jaunt on what ended up being one of the most surreal trails I've ever ridden. Black Canyon can and will blow your mind all over your face. It feels like the best parts of Blue Diamond (LV) over and over and over. Fast and flowly, bench-cut, machine built speed track. We went to roughly 8-9 miles and turned back, yet the trail managed to be just as fun both ways!

We're in Scottsdale now, tomorrow South Mountain awaits.....

The day has finally come (or at least is very close to coming). Tomorrow myself and a rag-tag group of "so-called" mountain-bikers depart for a near two-week road trip of the Southwest. First stop Flagstaff, here we come Pay-n-take!

I'm bringing my eeePC to keep y'all updated on all the riding your sorry ass is missing! That was a tinge cruel, but this weather has made me considerably tougher!

Yesterday I rode Amasa Back in Moab for the final bike "shake-down" before the trip. The ride, and bike, were excellent - soured only by a fantastic crash on the last possible drop on the trail. Just before crossing the stream to climb back to the lot, while pinning it, I decided to just huck off the final 4-footer instead of the usual notched route. Where I departed was a bit bigger than I had remembered and the landing was nothing more than a sandpit and boulder. Ooops. Front heavy, I exploded of the back of the bike and sent it hurtling in front of me. I'm okay, the bikes okay - lesson learned (IE don't be a dumbass).

In other news, Rennie signed with Morewood - thats interesting.

Winter non-fun....

Winter sure is wintery lately. Unable to ride, I've grown bitter and malcontent. I'll survive. I discovered this new sport called Skiboarding (apparently all the kids are doing it), it's pretty radical.

Back to the Desert....

I've just gotten home from a trip to the front range, where apparently driving below the speed limit in the left lane is normal (bastards). After a short layover in Vail due to poor road conditions we arrived at SRAM's R&D center in Colorado Springs for four days of hands on training and education of all their product lines. This was my second time attending and it once again was thoroughly enjoyable and interesting. Can't wait to get my hands on the new BOXXER!

Following "SRAM Camp" I went to an appointment in Greeley to have my bionic elbow checked out by the orthopedic surgeon to make sure it's all good and I'm happy to report that I won't be needing surgery again to remove the hardware! I'm pretty psyched on that. Despite the fact that it aches quite a bit and I can tell when the weather is changing, I'm glad I won't be missing any riding due to recovery or going under the knife (I've been under way too many in my young life already!).

In other news I've upgraded my computer sufficiently to allow editing of the HD footage I've been collecting recently and am hoping to put out a short video within the next week or so. Keep checking back, it's coming, I PROMISE!

Oh well, we did snag a spot at a friends plush condo in the Village for the night, things could be worse. I'm off to get supplies for the evening (pizza and beer).

BORING! There isn't much going on around here lately. I've been riding the wheels off my Endorphin and loving it. Hit up some new ,undiscovered local spots with my buddy Max the other day. I did the the biggest natural drop I've ever done the other day - that felt good. We're gonna do some more exploring later this week.

I'm working on an aesthetic overhaul for the site as well as getting it up on simply a .com address.

I'm working on a video over the winter highlighting some of the talent here in the GV and 'cross the border in Moab. Just got a Kodak Zi6 mini-HD camcorder thats really fun to shoot with. The video files are so big they crash my computer though! The good thing about that however is that I can stockpile a bunch of shots and take my time editing them instead of rushing the product - like I have in the past. I think a little RAM upgrade and some new software should cure the problem. IT better, as I just bought that computer last year! Obsolete in one year? I hope not, I thought the tech industry was over that now.

Borrowing a VIO Pov helmet cam this week for some variation - maybe a little teaser will come out of that.

One busy week after another....

It's been pretty non-stop for me since Interbike ended. I flew black and immediatley went to work the for the next 5 days in a row then hit the road Hurricane on Tuesday evening.

On Wednesday I met up with Wade Simmons and Andreas Hestler and a crew of photogs and videogeeks to do some guiding for them in SW Utah. Before we could get to riding I helped Geoff Gulevich put together his new RM Flatline for the Rampage comp. In the afternoon, we hit up Gooseberry.

For two days we sessioned the flowy rock formations of South Rim, Hidden Canyon, and the buff singletrack of the Jem trail. I also ran into my buddy TR from Marzocchi and passed my 66 onto him for some love. Gabe from Smith Optics was also in the house, be sure to search for Super-GTV on YouTube for some helmet cam action!

I also got to do some wrenching as "neutral support" for the first day of the Red Bull Rampage. HERES MY VIDEO:

Meanwhile back in Fruita, Chris Cocalis from Pivot cycles came in town last night. I just got a chance to take a lap at Kokopelli on the new Firebird which is one helluva bike. It's def a Nomad killer in virtually every aspect. Felt a bit like a superlight Iron Horse Sunday and was surefooted and competent in some pretty hairy sections.

Another Interbike is in the books, thank God. The show is fun and all, but the cicus-like atmosphere of Vegas paired with the non-stop marketing jargon and hype of the industry gets old after about an hour. Dirt Demo is fun, but after about one lap around the indoor expo your brain begins malfunction.

My second Super D of the week went a little better than the first. I finished 17th, :47 back from 1st with one small crash as I ran into a downed competitor on the tricky and extremely dusty Sol Vista course. It was a tight race and had I not had the small pile-up I'm sure I would have been right behind, if not right with, the top guys. Chad, coach of the Devo squad, took the state championship and Jesse Swift (with whom I got tangled with in Thursdays Crankworx Super DH) came in second. My gal Nancy got second in the open womens field.

Ross Schnell rounded out his weekend with his 4th victory - this one in the XC state championships. The race was called after 2 laps do to an extremely close thunderstorm. Congrats to him!

I am nearly finished editing the Crankworx Slopestyle video - if I could just get my computer to stop crashing! Look for it on here by Wednesday!

Crankworx Colorado Update...

The Crankworx Colorado All-Mountain Downhill, Super Downhill, Downhill, and
Best Trick are are in the books - with my hero (and friend) Ross Schnell winning 3 of the 4. Cam McCaul won best trick with a Superman Backflip on the jai-normous stepdown. I guess Trek finally has some capable bikes eh?

Ross won the All-mountain DH despite showing up top the race just minutes before the race began! Hours later he also won the Super DH against some pretty good competition, which included "flyin" Brian Lopes, Wade Simmons, and me (I'm kinda a big deal). BTW, Brian Lopes showed his true colors by blatantly cheating the course and cutting virtually every corner that wasn't taped (including two huge switchback turns at the beginning of the race). Ross stayed on the course and still managed to stuff him (and pass him not once, but twice) on couple of corners to win the race.

I had a tangle-up with Jesse Swift as he tried to pass me and we both ate dirt. He was nice enough to stop and let me borrow his multi-tool so I could straighten my handlebars. Once I got my bars straight I pinned it to the bottom of the course hoping to pass at lea;st one person. I ultimatley failed in that pursuit, but I managed to finish ~2:30 minutes back from 1st despite the off the bike crash and subsequent handlebar realignment.

My gal Nancy Morlock won the women's pro field in the Super DH. Amy Schreb (?) came in Second and combined with her first place All-Mountain DH finsh won the overall. Big props to the organizers who paid CASH for the top finishers in the men and womens divisons (MSC and NMBS take note, bitches).

The Downhill was for me quite a let down as I snapped my hanger mid-way down a pretty solid run. I had convinced Ross to race on Thursday and he ended up winning that event as well, against some pretty good competetion (PRO DHers!). Jackie Harmony won the womens field.

On the non-racing side, Cam McCaul won the best trick with the aformentioned Superman-backflip. Greg Watts should get honorable mention with his backflip-tailwhip. Andrew Taylor and Tyler McCaul showed they are up-and-comers, both putting in MANY great runs (including opp-tailwhips and flat-flips).

Tomorrow holds for me the Super-D state championships and the Slopestyle finals. Check out the website for the full video in a couple of days!

No updates lately - as you've noticed. I don't have access to the internets from my home anymore and it ain't in the budget anytime soon. The upside of that is that I can spend more time editing footage and compiling video and less time looking for the latest hot deals on eBay!

I coudn't be any happier for my buddy, and Fruita native, Ross Schnell who killed it at Downieville. He is an incredible rider and I'm glad to see him get some press. Races like Downieville really show who the best "mountain bikers" are in the race scene. A quick look at the results shows some pretty big guns (Beneke, Lopes, Weir, Etc.) that Ross put the hurt on!

My race season so far has been lackluster. A win in Bootleg to start the season, followed by a dismal 20th in Angelfire, and an even more frustrating DNF (flat) in Crested Butte. I elected to skip Snowmass last weekend since I'm already pretty far out of contention for a good overall result in the MSC series and I remember the course being more XC than DH. My focus is Crankworx Colorado in 2 weeks. I'll be doing the All-mountian DH, the Super DH, and the DH. The MSC has a stop in Solvista that weekend too, so add another Super-D. That's 4 races in about 4 days - hopefully I'll still be in 1 piece! I'll be riding for 3 days at Winter Park this coming week to practice.

It's been a month since my last update so I'm probably due. I don't have internet access at my house anymore so it's difficult.

The first Mountain States Cup Super D is in the books. The weather was seriously heinous from the moment we got to Angel Fire, but it was still a heck of a lot of fun. I got 20th (30 finishers) in the open class and my gal, Nancy, brought home 2nd in the ladies open class.

The Sortie did a great job handling the difficult and technically challenging course. My bald Nokian rear tire proved to be a bad choice in the ice, mud, and snow but made for some fun drifting action!

Here's a pic of the DB Sortie 3 I just built up. I'm gonna use this bike and a 6" travel Mission for Super D racing this season on the Mountain States Cup circuit and some local races. I wanted this bike to be fast and nimble, but solid and confidence inspiring - so I went with a 100mm travel Manitou Minute MRD with 20mm axle. For the time being I'm also running chunky but solid DT Swiss E2200 wheels with some meaty Nokian tires. I opted for a 1x9 drivetrain using Shimano road cranks with 34t gearing and a short cage XT rear derailleur. I like the way it looks (team america!), now I'm gonna go ride it! :thumbsup:
